INTERNATIONAL JOINT SYMPOSIUM / ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL IN PASSENGER BOATS
Many people, like elderly people, pregnants and children at different ages as well as mentally disabled people, blind people and wheelchair persons are in circulation in the active public life of today’s cities. However, until now, dimensions, norms and standarts were considered for an average human and designs were suitable for this type of user in every phase of public transportation. Obviously, there is a rising importance and awareness of the concept, Accessibility for All, in recent years and in this context, sure, there are some precautions taken in use of transportation systems easier and practical solutions found for the daily problems. But now, a comprehensive approach should be developed. Especially in İzmir, the importance of coastline and bay in public transportation network of the city indicates that there is an urgent need of a new approach. Therefore, as the institutions mentioned above, we have constituted İZMİR MARINE STUDIES GROUP and invited researchers and designers to share the ideas and studies on accessibility. With the same purpose, we are inviting the users, students, local authorities, chambers and institutions of İzmir, in short, all are interested to discuss and contribute to the symposium ACCESIBILITY FOR ALL IN PASSENGER BOATS.
